When I turn on the oven to bake cookies or bread, I like to throw in other things that need to bake as well.  Last week I threw in some beets, turnips, and an acorn squash.  I had intended to food process them up together with butter and cream, making a root vegetable mash, but instead Calvin cubed the squash and turnips.  He served these warm over bread and rice, respectively.  I exclaimed, “This is my favorite meal, ever!”  It took him by surprise, I think, because it was simple.  My dinner did not have seasoning, besides salt, and was served without sauce.  Dinner was simply rice and vegetables, which felt so comforting.  The sunflower sprouts from our CSA added a crunch, which really completed the meal.
